University Center to host Lenten Taize Prayer

University Catholic Center (formerly the Newman Center) at the University of Hawaii in Manoa will host the “Taize Prayer Around the Cross,” a quiet hour-long candlelight service of chant, prayer and reflection before the icon of the cross, at 7:30 p.m. on the Tuesdays of Lent, beginning Feb. 12.

Jesuit Father Chris Cartwright will lead the prayer, which he described as a “rich Lenten practice of reflection at the foot of the Tree of Salvation.”

Lahaina parish presents ‘great Bible adventure’

Maria Lanakila Church in Lahaina, Maui, will host “The Great Adventure: Journey Through the Bible” seminar led by the director of the Denver Catechetical School, Thomas Smith, on Feb. 22 and 23. The two-day class is on Friday, 6:30-8:30 p.m., and Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

The pre-registration deadline is Feb. 12 and the cost is $20 a person, which includes workshop materials and lunch. Late registration will be accepted if space is available.
