Three marriage annulment workshops scheduled

Judicial vicar Father Mark Gantley will offer two Big Island workshops and one on Oahu on the tribunal process of petitioning for a marriage annulment, formally called a “declaration of marital nullity.”

These workshops are tailored for the laity. Anyone may attend and questions are welcome. Here’s the schedule:

n   7 p.m., Jan. 29, St. Joseph Church, Hilo

n   7 p.m., Jan. 31, St. Michael Church, Kailua-Kona

n   7 p.m., Feb. 19, St. Stephen Diocesan Center

Kihei’s Hale Kau Kau fundraiser is Feb. 2

St. Theresa Parish’s Hale Kau Kau, Kihei, which serves hot meals daily to the hungry, homeless and homebound of South Maui, will have its 9th annual fundraiser dinner on Feb. 2 at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort and Spa.

The event will feature a live/silent auction and entertainment by the award-winning Halau Kekua‘okala‘au‘ala‘iliahi. On the menu is a “tropical feast” of salad, sautéed mahimahi, shoyu chicken, kalua pig, teriyaki steak, Molokai sweet potatoes, garlic fried rice, stir fry vegetables, and many delicious deserts.

Pregnancy center benefit named for Father Leicht

The Holy Name Society of Oahu’s annual benefit luncheon for the Pregnancy Problem Center of Aiea will be at 11 a.m., Feb. 2, at Tree Tops Restaurant in Manoa Valley.

This year’s fundraiser will be called the Father Gerard Leicht Memorial Luncheon after the late Sacred Hearts priest and Holy Name spiritual director who was instrumental in helping expectant mothers keep their babies.

The Pregnancy Problem Center offers free pregnancy testing and counseling to women regardless of race, religion or ethnic background.

The event’s featured speaker is Jay Lembeck, the new executive director of Hawaii Right to Life, which co-sponsors the annual March for Life at the state capitol. Comedian Frank De Lima will entertain.

The society is asking for a $20 donation per attendee. For tickets, send a check made out to “Holy Name Society” for $20 per each ticket to Joseph Shorba, Secretary, Holy Name Society, 956-A Lei Road, Honolulu, HI 96817. The tickets will be mailed to you.

Cursillos of Hawaii offering evangelization workshop

Cursillistas (those who have made a Cursillo retreat) are invited to a Cursillo Evangelization Workshop, Friday-Saturday, Feb. 15-16, at St. Anthony Retreat Center in Kalihi Valley.

The retreat — for those who are “willing to follow the Lord’s call to be “the light of the world & the salt of the earth” — will offer meditations and spiritual talks by priests and lay persons. It is sponsored by Cursillos of Hawaii Diocesan Secretariat.

Catholic Women’s Guild Lenten meeting Feb. 23

The Catholic Women’s Guild Lenten meeting is Feb. 23 beginning with Mass at 10:30, celebrated by Sacred Hearts Father Thomas Choo at Regina Pacis Convent, 1120 Fifth Avenue in Kaimuki, followed by a short business meeting and a light lunch. RSVP by Feb. 19 to 395-2705.

Parking is available across the street at Sacred Hearts Academy. Used costume jewelry will be collected at the meeting and sent to Majuro.
