Gift leads the way

Matson Navigation Company District Manager Russell Chin presents a check for $6,000 to the principal of St. Joseph School, Hilo, Sister of St. Francis Marion Kikukawa. Chin presented the check on behalf of A&B Foundation as the lead gift in the school’s first comprehensive capital campaign. Matson is a subsidiary of Alexander & Baldwin. The campaign will fund science and the arts programs, tuition assistance, professional growth opportunities for staff, and new facilities and services. St. Joseph School has served the Big Island since 1869.

A young boy joins mariachis in an annual procession in Los Angeles Nov. 26 in honor of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music. The musicians attended an open-air Mass and on Dec. 7 they are scheduled to sing at an Los Angeles archdiocesan Mass honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe.
