The Hilo-born Sister of St. Francis died on Aug. 12 at St. Francis Hospice-West in Ewa Beach at age 73. She lived the religious life for 52 years, primarily as a teacher and school administrator.

The bishop and Powell, an Osage Indian, were on hand for the dedication of a new parish shrine dedicated to Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha. Following the dedication parishioners gathered for a traditional Osage meal. The church, founded in 1890 in Indian territory, has had a longtime connection to the Osage tribe.
