Mainland actor to perform Aldyth Morris’ ‘Damien’

Mainland actor Casey Groves will perform “Damien,” the one-man play by Aldyth Morris made famous by Hawaii’s Terence Knapp, at various settings throughout Hawaii this month and next.

Here is where Groves will be performing:

  • Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace, Honolulu, Aug. 25, 7 p.m., 536-7036
  • St Augustine Parish, Honolulu, Aug. 27, 6:30 p.m., 923-7024
  • Molokai Oceanside Retreat Center, Kaunakakai, Aug. 30, 6 p.m., 808-553-5403.
  • Chaminade University’s Mamiya Theater, Honolulu, Sept. 9, 7:30 p.m.

Groves first performed the play in his Catholic high school in New Orleans when he was 16 years old. After earning a bachelors degree in fine arts and a master’s degree in spirituality from Holy Name College in Calif., he began performing the play in public in 2000 in New York where he received the Damien-Dutton Award from the Damien-Dutton Society.

He has since performed the play in Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, California and Texas.

A free will offering at each performance will go to the actor’s fee and the building fund for the Blessed Damien Church in Kaunakakai, Molokai.
