Bishop Larry Silva is convening on Jan. 18 the first meeting of the Father Damien/Mother Marianne Commission, a new group he wants to promote devotion to, and the canonization of, the two beatified missionaries to the leprosy patients of Kalaupapa a century ago.

Damien canonization cause takes a step forward

The cause for the canonization of Blessed Damien de Veuster took a step forward earlier this month. On Dec. 2, the Vatican Congregation of the Causes of Saints accepted as concluded the work of the Diocese of Honolulu tribunal investigating an alleged miracle attributed to Blessed Damien’s intercession.
