Vatican approves Blessed Damien feast day, but on new date

The Vatican has approved the U.S. bishops' request to add of Blessed Damien of Molokai to the American church calendar. However, it changed the date customarily used in Hawaii to celebrate his feast, the date initially requested by the U.S. bishops.

A young boy joins mariachis in an annual procession in Los Angeles Nov. 26 in honor of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music. The musicians attended an open-air Mass and on Dec. 7 they are scheduled to sing at an Los Angeles archdiocesan Mass honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe.
